Valentines Flowers – Tough Sell Right Now?

With our economy going not so well, it’s especially time to be thankful and showing it with flowers or other gifts on Valentine’s. People are going a lot more low key this year. So think roses mixed with other flowers. Or perhaps flowers without a lot of other fanfare.

Whatever you do this Valentines and whatever financial condition you’re in – celebrate love. When things are tough love is still there. It doesn’t cost a lot to show it.

The numbers don’t look great for retailers, especially online florists. Research firm IBISWorld Inc. predicts spending for Valentine’s Day this year will fall to $28.6 billion, 4.8 percent below last year. It’s a great time to get a good deal on travel or hotels – especially because Valentine’s Day falls on a weekend this year. To me the most romantic thing is to check into a room for the first time and see flowers. I know because it’s what my husband did for our honeymoon. I took the flowers everywhere we went and they added a personal touch to the room. I loved it.
